HISTORY
Umberto Bruno was born in Palermo, he passed his infancy among places,
colors, tastes and perfumes typical of his Sicily. He attended schools
of Sicilian artists of notable importance. From the artistic high
school he studied to the IED (European Institute of Design) deepening
his study of the pictorial techniques and of incision. In 1996 he
worked with the ceramics and then he opened a laboratory in Monreale,
center of the Sicilian craftsmanship of quality. |

THE
PHASES OF PRODUCTION
T he phases of realization of the products are numerous. Th e quality
of the production is not only tied up to the competence in the techniques
but also to the choice of the materials. All the ceramics are realized
with particular enamels that are fit to the alimentary uses. The phases
of enamel of the pieces are accurate. Umberto Bruno begins from the
conclusion of the clay, that generally happens to the lathe unless
for some pieces (. handicraft tiles, sculptures, and in general all
the objects with articulated forms). The object is set in the oven
for the first cooking to 980 degrees, about 13 hours and then the
object is enameled. The second phase proceeds for the coloration.
So the piece is ready for the last phase of cooking that is done around
to 940 degrees for 13 hours and then it begins the phase cooling (2
hours around).

THE
STYLE
Every single piece is created and drawn by the artist and it has origin
as it conceives in the same moment of its realization evolving itself
in the single phases of the trial. None of his works derives from
the case, all are expression of the culture and the soul of his Sicily
that speaks in the contemporary key.

THE RANGE
The White terracotta is rich of styles and of the cultural heritages
that govern the city of Palermo and particularly the Arab-Norman one
for the typology of the sketches and the Greek tradition for the choice
of the raw kind with decorums in relief. The geometric forms realized
of terracotta and engraved enamel are born from the reproduction that
the artist has wanted to create some apses of the Monreale's cathedral.
The landscapes are undoubtedly a transposition of the illustration
on the fertile ground of the ceramics, a figurative technique and
of the color difficult and refined. The refinement of the colors is
conquered by the tonalities crayon typical of the suggestive Sicilian
landscape conferring to the realized pieces a lightness
and together a heat that you/they conquer. The pieces are realized
with an incision of the motive for the decoration directly on the
clay, with the following incision of enamel and realized in an alternation
among forms, colors and tones realize him a perfect fusion of all
the styles and technical competences of the artist. The realized products
are numerous in terms of decorums that of typologies of objects. Surely
Umberto Bruno also deserves however mention the tied up activity to
the realization of insignias developed both with the realization of
the logo and on commission.
